
Biography
Nancy Steele-Makasci is an American interdisciplinary visual artist, art educator, and Professor of Art in the Department of Art and Design at Utah Valley University, where she teaches courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, and art education. She received an MFA in Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an MA in Art from Ball State University, and a BA in Visual Arts Education (magna cum laude) from Ball State University.
Working in a wide range of reproducible print media, painting, drawing, and book arts, Steele-Makasci confronts a variety of contemporary social justice issues including gender and cultural inequalities, environmental issues, and economic disparity. She completed an artist residency at MI-LAB (Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory) in 2024 as part of the Advanced Program D in Echizen, Japan, where she focused on honing her skills and knowledge of the advanced techniques of mokuhanga (traditional Japanese color woodblock printing).
Her artwork was accepted for exhibition at the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference juried exhibition in the Americas regional section. She has also exhibited at the Salt Lake City Arts Council and the Claton Staples Gallery at Wichita State University, and has taught workshops in book arts at institutions including the Boise Downtown Art Center. She has received awards from the Utah Arts Council and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Utah.
