Tashima Megumi

Tashima Megumi is a Japanese printmaker born in 1988 in Fukuoka Prefecture, where she continues to live and work. Her prints explore the mystery and enchantment of natural landscapes, with particular attention to forest environments rendered with a sense of depth and narrative possibility that invites viewers into imagined worlds.

Tashima completed her Master’s program in Fine Arts at the Kyushu Sangyo University Graduate School of Art and Design in 2013. Although based in Fukuoka, on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, she exhibits widely beyond the region, with solo shows in Tokyo and Osaka and participation in fairs such as Art Fair Tokyo.

Her printmaking practice includes lithography, the medium of her best-known work, “Signposts in the Deep Forest,” which earned her the Excellence Prize at the 2021 Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition. The print exemplifies her atmospheric approach to landscape, suggesting pathways and hidden markers within dense woodland settings.

Tashima’s prints are characterized by their evocative quality, creating spaces that feel simultaneously natural and fantastical. The forest, as her recurring subject, becomes a site for the exploration of themes including guidance, discovery, and the boundary between the known and the unknown. Her ability to convey these qualities at miniature scale demonstrates considerable skill in managing detail and atmospheric depth within compact formats.

Her work is represented by Yugen Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Tokyo, and is held in Japanese print collections including the Machida International Print Museum and the Tama Art University Museum. Through competitive exhibitions such as the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition and the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennale, Tashima has begun to build a profile that extends the reach of her Fukuoka-based practice to audiences in Japan and abroad.
