Swirl

*Swirl* (2023), oil on canvas by Alexia Vogel, is a nonrepresentational composition of sweeping, fan-like arcs of paint radiating and curving across a pale ground. Loose bands of blue, green, pink, red, and yellow overlap in feathered, semi-transparent strokes, concentrated most densely through the center and lower portion of the canvas while the upper corners fade to near-white. There are no figures or defined setting, only rhythmic, wind-blown-looking brushwork creating a sense of motion.
