Description

A black-and-white wood engraving of a small mouse or rat clinging to a tree trunk amid dense maple-leaf foliage, reaching toward two small cup-like vessels suspended by thin lines from the branches above, with droplets falling from the upper vessel. Handset letterpress text in the lower right reads "Every day he'd come. / His doubts would keep him humble, his hope / would keep him true." Rendered entirely in fine black linework on cream paper, the composition is dense and textured, filling most of the sheet with intertwined branches and leaves. Andy Farkas, wood engraving and handset letterpress text, year unknown.
