Description
Abadal Lloret produces this woodblock print within the Art Print Residence near Barcelona, the international printmaking workshop her parents Claudia Lloret and Jordi Roses founded in 2012 after fifteen years directing the International Printmaking School in Calella and Mataró. As an untitled work, it sits within an output where technical method often carries as much weight as iconography: water-based mokuhanga pigments, multiple block impressions registered with kentō, and absorbent [washi](/glossary/washi) that allows the [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradient — the soft tonal blend produced by brushing diluted pigment onto a dampened block. Abadal Lloret has positioned herself as an advocate for non-toxic printmaking, and mokuhanga's reliance on water rather than solvents or acids aligns with that commitment. This print therefore functions as both an artwork and a demonstration of method, consistent with her teaching role at the residence and her wider work bringing Japanese woodblock practice into the Catalan and broader European printmaking community.
