Description
"Saturday" is the second print in Takeda's 2011 weekday cycle, etched on copper and tonally modelled with aquatint. Where "Friday" registers a transition, "Saturday" settles into the longer hours of weekend domestic time — laundry pulled in, errands run between rooms, a body lingering in pyjamas past noon. Takeda's standing approach in this period is to draw the apartment as a closed stage and to bite the plate in graded stops, building a flat grey field over which etched line work establishes furniture, fittings, and figure. The compositional flatness — frontal walls, perpendicular floor lines, almost no atmospheric perspective — is consistent with the cramped-interior framing that runs through her room-numbered prints from 2009 onward. As one entry in a small series, "Saturday" carries the observational tone Takeda extends across her contemporary domestic subjects: the day is named, the room is shown, and the print declines to dramatise either.
