Description
Leaving bird and resting bird sets two passerines in contrasting attitudes — one departing in flight, one settled on a perch — a paired composition with deep roots in the [kacho-e](/glossary/kacho-e) tradition. The juxtaposition allows the designer to resolve two distinct anatomies in a single sheet: the extended wings, splayed tail, and forward-leaning body of the departing bird, and the compact, folded silhouette of the bird at rest. Such pairings often imply narrative without describing it, evoking themes of parting, return, or the simple coexistence of motion and stillness in the natural world. Mokuhanga technique handles the contrast through line: the keyblock for the flying bird carries longer, sweeping strokes, while the resting bird's outline is tighter and more closed. The Birds & Flowers tag confirms the print's kacho-e affiliation, and the subject sits comfortably within Fukami's evident focus on small-scale natural observation.
