Malitzin at the frontera

Malitzin at the frontera (2020) divides its composition in two: at left, a dense crowd of seated and standing figures in earth-toned clothing presses against a chain-link fence, interspersed with skeletal figures and pale blue bundled shapes on the ground; at right, a green-uniformed border officer gestures toward a group of men in dark suits and jackets, while a woman in an orange-and-white striped rebozo stands beside a bald eagle entangled in a rope or lasso. Small green birds appear scattered across the composition, and the figures are rendered in flat colors with heavy black outlines against a bare tan ground. Israel Campos executed the work in gouache on amate paper backed on panel.
