Description
"The prayer (XXIX)" precedes XXXII in the series and offers a related but distinct state of the same governing motif. In Kasai's serial method, adjacent numbers within a single subject generally signify variations in palette, density, or compositional weighting rather than wholesale recomposition — the underlying structure remains stable while atmospheric and chromatic decisions shift. The architectural or symbolic form at the centre of the prayer series is therefore likely held constant, with the [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) fields around it carrying the principal expressive load through gradient transitions from saturated to pale. As a contemplative subject, "la prière" stands apart from his otherwise secular vocabulary of weather and water, and the protracted serial treatment reads as a discipline of repeated attention rather than a programme of representation. The title's French formulation is consistent with Kasai's career-long European orientation.
