Description
The final untitled print in this group of Kay Brown works again derives from her concentrated 2024 mokuhanga activity centred on the MI-LAB Basic Training Program C in Echizen. Residency programmes of this kind typically produce a coherent body of related prints in a short period, with shared technical concerns recurring across the set: the same [washi](/glossary/washi) stock, the same [baren](/glossary/baren), often related blocks recut or re-inked across editions. Read as one of a series, this untitled work likely participates in such a coherent group rather than standing as an isolated statement. Brown's parallel selection for the IMC Europe exhibition in Echizen indicates that the residency output reached a level considered worthy of international juried display. As a UK artist representing England in that international context, she belongs to the expanding constituency of contemporary mokuhanga practitioners outside Japan whose work, often abstract and untitled, sustains the technique while widening its geographical and conceptual reach.
