Description
A stylized, faceless happi coat is rendered frontally against a pale mottled ground, its sleeves splayed flat like a paper cutout. The garment is patterned in bright red and yellow diamond lattice with solid black triangular collar and hem accents, and the single black kanji "祭" (festival) is emblazoned across the chest. Kunio Kaneko's 1996 woodblock print reduces the figure to bold, graphic blocks of color with no face or limbs shown, giving the composition a flat, emblematic quality.
