Lotus in Summer

Lotus in Summer (2013), a Chinese brush painting by Yeh Lan, depicts two dark long-tailed birds perched on an arched green stem amid orange and pink lotus blossoms, unopened buds, and broad green leaves. The composition is rendered in loose, wet washes of green, gold, and olive that blur into the background, with the flowers and birds built up in denser orange, black, and white pigment. A column of black calligraphy and two red seal stamps appear at the upper left against the pale ground.
