Description
Submitted to the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference, held in the Echizen region of Fukui Prefecture, this print represents Beeman's contribution to the field's central international gathering, hosted in an area long associated with the production of [kozo](/glossary/kozo) [washi](/glossary/washi) prized by mokuhanga printmakers. As a participating artist in the IMC's exhibition and exchange programs, Beeman would have produced an edition on Echizen washi, the long-fibered, absorbent paper that registers water-based pigments cleanly under the [baren](/glossary/baren). While the specific imagery is not confirmed by the title alone, the work likely draws from her established subject matter: Michigan wetlands, lakes, and waterfalls rendered through the layered [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations characteristic of her practice. Beeman's contribution situates her American mokuhanga work within an international community of Japanese, European, and other Western practitioners committed to the non-toxic, water-based tradition. Her IMC participation reflects her standing as one of a small number of US-based instructors maintaining and disseminating the technique, and aligns with the conference's mission of bridging the historical Edo-period craft with contemporary international practice.
