Description
This print was selected for the juried exhibition at the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference held in Echizen, Japan, a region with centuries of [washi](/glossary/washi) production. The work was displayed within the Oceania regional grouping alongside other Australian and New Zealand mokuhanga practitioners. IMC juried selections are made by an international panel and reflect a curated cross-section of contemporary practice in the medium. White's inclusion situates this work within a community of artists adapting the Japanese water-based woodblock tradition outside its country of origin. The Echizen edition of IMC was held in proximity to the Imadate paper villages, where many participating artists also engaged in workshops on traditional papermaking and registration techniques. Specific compositional details of this submission are not catalogued here; the entry serves as a marker of White's standing within the international mokuhanga community rather than a thematic reference to her broader landscape and bird subjects.
