Filtration

*Filtration* (2015) by Masahiko Minami renders a dense line of trees in charcoal and graphite, their foliage built up through dense, feathery hatching in gray and black, receding into a pale, blank sky above and a light, sparsely marked foreground below. A gap in the tree line opens at the center, framing the empty ground beyond it. The palette is limited to grayscale tones against the cream of the paper, giving the scene a quiet, still mood.
