Description
A second treatment of the tōsenkyo fan-tossing game subject, this print likely offers a compositional variation on the first: a different arrangement of figures, a different moment in the game's action, or an alternative setting. Multiple prints on a single genre subject were common in Meiji series and albums. The game's props — lacquered stands, decorated folding fans, and the small tassel-and-stand target — would appear as recurring compositional elements across both sheets. Shuntei's attention to interior domestic setting in [bijin-ga](/glossary/bijin-ga) prints suggests that furnishings and architectural details, such as sliding screens or tokonoma alcoves visible in the background, distinguish this composition from its companion.
