Description
This untitled Miyagawa Shuntei woodblock print is one of a group of works by the artist held in museum collections without surviving title inscriptions or series designations. Shuntei produced prints across several formats and subjects, including [meisho-e](/glossary/meisho-e) views of Tokyo, [bijin-ga](/glossary/bijin-ga), and illustrated genre scenes. The high numbering implied by this slug suggests it may belong to a multi-sheet series or a numbered publication sequence from his documented activity in the Meiji period. Technically, prints of this era required close coordination between artist, block carver, and printer to maintain color registration across ten or more blocks; misalignment was corrected by shaving the [kento](/glossary/kento) guides on the keyblock. Without additional iconographic or bibliographic evidence, the precise subject and publication context of this print cannot be determined.
