Description

Two dressmaker's mannequins stand side by side against a woodgrain-textured amber-brown ground, above a red floor incised with a fine diagonal lattice pattern. The left mannequin is a solid, faceless black silhouette with a tapering, elongated torso and rounded head-like top; the right mannequin is rendered in pale cream with visible seam lines, a fitted bodice and flared hip, mounted on a black tripod stand with a dark finial above its neck. Pencil-signed and numbered in the margin below the images, the composition is symmetrical and spare, with the two joined sheets reading as a single diptych. Woodcut on two joined sheets of Japanese paper, "Her Own Interpretation," Nana Shiomi, 2020.
