Description
This print was selected for the juried exhibition at the 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference held in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture — Japan's traditional center of [washi](/glossary/washi) papermaking, and a fitting site for a contemporary woodblock conference. The IMC brings together artists, papermakers, pigment makers, and scholars; its juried exhibitions divide submissions by region, and Ninomiya's work was placed in the Asia regional show alongside other Japanese and Asian practitioners. Her selection here followed an earlier IMC inclusion at the 2021 conference in Nara, indicating sustained recognition within the contemporary mokuhanga community across two cycles. The work was produced using water-based pigments, multiple carved blocks, and hand pressing with a [baren](/glossary/baren) — the standard mokuhanga workflow — likely on Echizen washi, the venue's signature paper. Pieces accepted into IMC juried exhibitions are documented in the conference catalogue and circulated to participating institutions, giving selected prints a defined place in the international record of contemporary mokuhanga.
