The title functions as an inventory of the composition — a black oval, a triangular form, and a rounded green shape distributed across the sheet. This descriptive, almost diaristic naming convention is characteristic of Motonaga's print output from the 1970s onward, in which he catalogued the elementary forms and colors deployed in each image. As a silkscreen pulled in an edition of 150, the work depends on flat, evenly saturated areas of pigment and crisp contour — qualities the medium suited better than the dripped enamel and pooled lacquer of his earlier Gutai paintings. The shapes read as biomorphic rather than strictly geometric, retaining the rounded, cartoonish vocabulary inherited from his early career as a manga illustrator. After his 1966–67 stay in New York, where he encountered the bright, edge-driven painting of Pop and post-painterly abstraction, Motonaga increasingly translated his earlier gestural language into hard-edge graphic form. Prints like this one show that translation in concentrated form: a small repertoire of elemental shapes, intense flat color, and the visual humour that distinguished his contribution to Gutai's second phase.
