Description
Way Home returns to the commuter cycle from its closing phase: the journey from workplace back to the domestic interior. The image likely traces the transition through the city — a lit street, a station exit, a residential approach — with the same combination of etched architectural framework and chine collé inserts that characterises Kim's mature prints. The hand-coloured passages, often applied selectively to clothing, illuminated windows, or held bags, register the warmer tonal register associated with evening light against the cooler register of the printed plate. By 2015 Kim has refined her vocabulary of urban motifs into a recognisable iconography, and Way Home participates in the broader narrative arc her output describes — morning subway, crowded carriage, platform, return — in which the prints accumulate not as a single linear series but as recurring registers of the same daily structure. The print continues her engagement with the everyday social architecture of contemporary East Asian metropolitan life.
