Description
A nocturnal study of the lighthouse at the end of Dun Laoghaire's East Pier, the granite-clad Victorian harbor structure facing Dublin Bay. Early uses aquatint to render the deep tonal range of the night sky and the dark mass of the harbor wall, while etched line preserves the architectural edges of the lighthouse itself. The lantern at the tower's top anchors the composition against a graduated dark ground characteristic of a heavily resined aquatint plate, where the light source becomes the only break in an otherwise sustained register of black and grey. The print belongs to Early's ongoing documentation of Ireland's working lighthouses, viewed here from the seaward side rather than the more familiar landward promenade. Her architectural training informs the careful registration of the tower's geometry against the broader diffusion of atmospheric tone, a contrast central to her print sensibility.
