A companion to "Iris Landscape" of the same year, "Flower Landscape" pairs a flowering plant with a Pacific-Northwest setting, again positioning bloom and terrain within a single integrated frame rather than as separate genres. The color lithograph format permitted Hansen to register multiple soft-edged color passes, suiting the diffuse light typical of western Washington summers. The compositional logic—near flower, middle ground, distant slope or water—echoes the layered space of meisho-e (famous-place pictures), though Hansen's locations are domestic rather than celebrated. Within his catalogue, the 1980 lithographs sit at a transition point in his graphic practice, between earlier formal landscape work and the plant-driven intaglio plates that would follow in the mid-1980s. The print also reflects Hansen's habit of working in dated pairs, returning to related motifs under varied conditions—a serial discipline visible across his catalogue and consistent with the view-series structures of Hokusai and Hiroshige he had studied earlier in his career.
