Description
This work captures the transitional moment when the frozen landscape of Heilongjiang Province begins to soften under lengthening daylight. In the Beidahuang tradition, early spring is a recurring subject because the northeast Chinese thaw is dramatic and brief — ice fractures on rivers, bare birch stands take on a reddish hue, and migratory birds return before full greenery arrives. Hao Boyi likely renders this scene with a restrained palette, relying on gradated ink washes and precisely cut line work to convey the tentative quality of the season. The interplay of residual snow, pale sky, and the first emergent vegetation would be achieved through multiple block registrations, with subtle tonal shifts differentiating frozen from thawing ground.
