Description
A companion or variant composition to the first senko hanabi print, this work revisits the subject of children holding sparkler fireworks in a domestic summer setting. The existence of a second print under the same title suggests either a paired [diptych](/glossary/diptych) format or an alternative composition issued within the same series. Shuntei may vary the number of children, their arrangement, or the background—substituting a garden view for a veranda interior, or shifting the viewpoint from frontal to a three-quarter angle. The soft, transient light of senko hanabi lent itself to delicate color printing requiring careful registration across multiple blocks, with thin washes of yellow and orange against deep indigo or black conveying the sparkle's glow against the evening air.
