Description
Hemerocallis Tiger Blood (Silver) returns to the same daylily cultivar treated in Doyle's blue variant, now overlaid with applied silver leaf. The metallic addition is a hand-finished step performed after the plate is printed, with silver foil burnished into selected areas of the composition — typically the central throat or the recurved petal edges — to introduce reflective passages that shift in appearance as the viewer moves. Combined with copper-sulphate etching, the silver creates a tension between the soft, dissolved line characteristic of the non-toxic mordant and the hard, mirroring surface of the leaf. The technique echoes the gilded grounds of medieval botanical illumination while remaining firmly within contemporary intaglio practice. As with much of Doyle's daylily series, the cultivar is presented isolated against an unworked field, allowing the viewer to read the plant as both botanical specimen and decorative motif.
