Heartbeat ( 心音図)

A tall, narrow scroll in pale cream tones shows a dense mass of fine black sumi ink linework forming an irregular, organic shape in the lower-center portion, its surface built from thousands of scratchy, overlapping strokes. Above and below this central form, sparse jagged lines rise and fall like an oscillating trace across the otherwise bare paper. Cyoko Tamai's "Heartbeat" (心音図), 2021, is executed in sumi ink on Japanese paper and mounted as a hanging scroll.
