Covenant II

Covenant II, an oil on prepared paper by Donald Groscost dated 2000, is a purely abstract composition split into two vertical fields: a saturated blue panel on the left and a yellow-gold panel on the right, separated by a narrow strip of red and black. The blue field is worked with scratched, looping linear marks that expose red beneath the surface, especially along the left edge and lower portion, while the yellow field is comparatively smooth apart from a muted grayish-brown rectangular smudge across its center and mottled red daubs clustered at the top and lower right corners. There are no figures or recognizable objects; the image consists entirely of flat color fields, incised texture, and irregular staining.
