"Miotsukushi" (Channel Buoys) is Chapter 14 of The Tale of Genji, set during Genji's return from exile and his reunion with various women whose lives were affected by his absence. The title refers to the channel markers (miotsukushi) used to guide ships through the shoals — a metaphor for the difficult navigation of emotions and social obligations as Genji returns to power. The chapter includes the poignant figure of Lady Rokujō, still caught between attachment and dignity. Ebina's print captures the ambivalent emotions of homecoming after exile.
