Adagio

*Adagio*, a 2024 watercolour by Elspeth Lamb, depicts a faceless female dancer with auburn hair, arms flung wide and one leg raised in a leap, wearing a white leotard and ballet slippers. Her form is fractured into overlapping triangular and circular planes of vermillion, ochre, teal, violet, and blue that radiate outward like diagonal shards of light. The composition is symmetrical and dynamic, built almost entirely from intersecting straight-edged facets against a pale blue background.
