Trace

*Trace* (2014) is a nonrepresentational composition by Emi Uchida in oil and charcoal, its surface covered edge to edge in a dense, cracked network of fine dark lines. Within that fractured grid float scattered flecks of color — white, red, blue, yellow, and black — concentrated into a red mass in the upper right and a blue mass at lower left, against pale cream and grey grounds, with a darker horizontal band running across the lower third.
