Trace 23-10

Trace 23-10 (2023), oil and charcoal on canvas by Emi Uchida, is an abstract composition of densely layered, crisscrossing linear marks in charcoal black and blue-grey covering a square-ish field on an unpainted cream canvas border. Toward the center, short vertical strokes of yellow, orange, and red punctuate the dark web of lines, forming a faintly glowing, grid-like cluster amid the surrounding tangle. The overall effect is dense and textural, with darker, thicker mark-making at the edges giving way to a lighter, more colorful concentration at the middle.
