Description
Part of Aida's Making Sounds series, this aquatint takes a single apple as its subject — a still-life meditation that uses the medium's tonal subtlety to evoke surface, weight, and the acoustic resonance hinted at in the title. The aquatint plate, prepared with finely sieved rosin and bitten in stages, allows Aida to model the rounded form through gradients that move from burnished highlight through warm mid-tones to plate-tone shadow. The series concept — fruit as sound-maker — invites the viewer to imagine the soft thud of an apple falling or being placed, an extension of Aida's interest in sensory imagery that pervades her water and rain prints. Even within an apparent still life, the artist's attention to atmosphere over pure description aligns this print with the contemplative, almost synaesthetic mode that distinguishes her practice from purely observational printmaking. The intimate scale invites close looking, mirroring the listening posture the title proposes.
