Composition number 896

A tall rust-red rectangle divided by a thin grid of darker red lines into a 2×4 arrangement of panels dominates the composition, set against an off-white ground. Crossing horizontally through the lower-middle portion of the red field, eight narrow wavy vertical bands in orange, blue, yellow, magenta, white, green, and pink extend just above and below the red rectangle's edges. The print is pencil-signed and dated 1987 at the lower right and numbered in the lower left; this 1985 color screenprint and woodcut by Yoshisuke Funasaka, titled Composition number 896, uses mica ink that gives the red ground a subtle sheen.
