White Breath

White Breath (2017), a woodblock print by Hidehiko Goto, is a vertically divided abstract composition: a pale blue-gray field on the left meets a darker mottled charcoal-gray field on the right, both textured with an even stippled grain. Along the seam between the two fields sits a tall, irregular white/gray leaf- or flame-like form with narrow slit openings, tapering to a thin curved point below and trailing a small teardrop shape and a single orange-yellow accent above. The palette is otherwise limited to grays and off-white, giving the print a quiet, muted mood; the sheet is pencil-signed and numbered in the lower margin.
