Description
The fourth recorded impression of Hiyoshi Mamoru's Amayadori composition captures the moment of rain shelter in a Korean farming landscape. Across the variants of this design, Hiyoshi appears to have explored the subject as a sustained study in atmospheric light and human comportment under sudden weather. This impression may show a tonal or coloristic variation — a shift in the blue or grey wash blocks used to render rain and cloud — distinguishing it from the other states. The human figures, likely Korean farmers caught mid-task, anchor the composition while the landscape recedes into soft bokashi passages suggesting depth and moisture-laden air. Hiyoshi's extended residence in Korea between 1909 and 1945 informed the ethnographic accuracy of costume and setting evident throughout his Korean genre prints.
