Description
Printed in an edition of 75, this oban mokuhanga addresses the idea of termination or boundary through its evocative title. Joshua Rome uses layered water-based pigments on washi paper to build a composition that may suggest a path, road, or passage reaching its conclusion, though his semi-abstract approach leaves the specific imagery open to interpretation. The mokuhanga technique's inherent softness, produced by the interaction of water-soluble pigments with absorbent paper under baren pressure, gives the print a contemplative quality suited to its reflective title. The relatively large edition size of 75 indicates a print intended for broader distribution, produced through the labor-intensive process of hand-printing each impression individually from carved cherry-wood blocks, with slight natural variations making each print unique within the edition.
