Description

The great waterfall at Ono on the Kisokaido mountain highway — one of the most dramatic natural spectacles along the inland route between Edo and Kyoto — appears in this print from the Shokoku Taki-meguri (Tour of Waterfalls in the Provinces) series. Ono-no-taki plunges through a narrow gorge cut by the Kiso River, and Hokusai's composition likely emphasizes the sheer vertical drop and the misting spray that obscured the base of the falls.
