Description
Blue Wind presents an abstract composition in which wind is rendered not through literal representation but through form and color. Dominated by cool blue tones, the print likely employs gradated bokashi passages to suggest atmospheric movement, with shapes shifting across the washi surface in ways that evoke directional force rather than a fixed scene. Abstract woodblock prints of the mid-twentieth century often drew on both Western modernist influence and the formal possibilities of the woodblock medium itself — the grain of the woodblock, the resistance of carved lines, and the layering of transparent pigments all contributing to effects unavailable in other print media. Kimura's handling here appears to treat blue not as descriptive local color but as a vehicle for conveying kinetic sensation within a compressed pictorial space.
