Description
Fruit — a still-life composition depicting the forms of ripe fruit in Kimura's contemporary woodblock style. Fruit subjects allowed Kimura to engage with the Japanese tradition of seasonal produce representation through a graphic language that emphasized form and color over botanical specificity. The round, organic forms of fruit — apples, persimmons, grapes, pomegranates — were subjects that lent themselves naturally to the flat, bold color areas of contemporary woodblock printing, their simple geometric forms rendered in the vivid colors of the harvest season.
