An untitled Kimura Yoshiharu woodblock print. His career spanned the transformation of Japanese printmaking from the shin-hanga tradition of the interwar period through the postwar sosaku-hanga movement and into the era of fully contemporary art, and his work reflected the ongoing negotiation between traditional Japanese subjects and modern graphic sensibilities that defined the best Japanese printmaking of the twentieth century.
