His bird subjects — white herons, owls, silver birds, cranes, pigeons — formed the core of his artistic practice, and his untitled prints may represent additional bird compositions or explorations of his other recurring themes: ocean surfaces, moonlight, stars, cats. The contemporary woodblock medium that Kimura mastered allowed him to pursue these subjects with both graphic boldness and technical refinement.
