Kaneko frequently produces paired or sequential prints around a single title, allowing collectors to observe how he reworks compositional problems across states. The mokuhanga process, which requires a separate block for each color layer, lends itself naturally to such variations: a shift in one block's registration or ink density can substantially alter the print's mood.
