Description
"Locomotion 2" suggests a print concerned with movement, mechanized transport, or the visual rhythm of repeated motion. The numerical suffix indicates a series, with this being the second installment. Kaneko's graphic approach translates well to mechanical or kinetic subjects: strong contour lines can define the profiles of trains, bicycles, or stylized figures in motion, while flat color fields register speed through diagonal composition or bold value contrast. The mokuhanga process, though traditionally associated with natural subjects, is here applied to a more urban or contemporary theme—a characteristic of Kaneko's willingness to expand the subject matter of the medium. Color may be bold and high-contrast, emphasizing the dynamism implied by the title rather than describing any single moment of stillness.
