In Lai Siu-Wai's 2047 series, where each print isolates a numerical sequence, this work reduces the readout almost entirely to zeros, leaving only the leading "20" to anchor the time (or year) before everything resets. Carved and printed in the artist's flat, graphic mode — drawing visually on the language of digital displays, transit signage, and printed timetables — the woodcut translates the cold legibility of a screen into the worked, tactile surface of inked relief on paper. Set against the date 2047, the run of zeros reads at once as countdown and as blank slate. The piece sits within Lai's continuing inquiry, developed at Hong Kong Open Printshop and EdUHK, into how a Hong Konger's sense of self is registered in the ordinary numbers of daily life.
