Description

An abstract composition dominated by mottled golden-yellow and ochre tones, built from overlapping torn or collaged paper-like shapes layered across the picture plane. Scattered pictographic and calligraphic marks resembling archaic Chinese script are printed in dark brown within several of the layered forms, while small accents of cobalt blue and a few white cloud-like shapes punctuate the composition; fine vertical hatching appears along the upper and right edges. There are no figures or landscape setting—the effect is a dense, textured abstract field. Fang Limin, "Capriccio of the Four Seasons No. 3," 1996, woodblock print.
