Description
A companion work to We Are Space-Time in both title and installation format, this mokuhanga piece scales Garcia's conceptual concerns about queer embodiment and speculative science to an immersive register. Where a single impression confines the viewer to a fixed vantage, the installation disperses multiple printed elements across a space, requiring physical movement to synthesize the full work. [Washi](/glossary/washi)'s translucent properties may be exploited to create layered depth when sheets are suspended or backlit, allowing light to activate the printed pigment in ways unavailable to framed works. The plural first-person possessive in the title — we hold, within us — performs a communal address consistent with Garcia's project of building queer solidarities through abstract visual language rooted in the material specificity of Japanese woodblock technique.
