Description
An exceptional technical departure within Lyon's figurative work, Pat is a four-color relief print assembled from 1,444 individual acrylic blocks rather than carved wooden planks. Each small block functions as a discrete printing unit, collectively building the image through a grid of closely spaced relief surfaces — a structural logic analogous to halftone printing but executed in three dimensions through physical impression. The four-color register allows a broader chromatic range than a monochromatic tonal study, and the acrylic material offers different ink retention and impression qualities compared to cherry or plywood. The work reflects Lyon's ongoing experimental relationship with relief printing materials, extending his practice beyond traditional mokuhanga into hybrid approaches that interrogate the boundaries of the medium.
