Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
"Taru Mikoshi" (1897) depicts a portable shrine (mikoshi) of the barrel (taru) type — a smaller, more portable version of the elaborate sacred palanquins that were carried through neighborhoods during shrine festivals. The festival context — children or community members participating in the mikoshi carrying — gave Shuntei a subject that combined social ritual, festive energy, and community gathering. The mikoshi as a physical object also provided strong compositional material: its distinctive gilded and lacquered form, its suspended bells and decorative elements.
Taru Mikoshi was created by Miyagawa Shuntei (宮川春汀) in 1897.
Taru Mikoshi depicts figures, religious, and children.
