Key value factors: For living or recently deceased artists, limited edition size and gallery representation drive value. Signed and numbered prints from smaller editions are most desirable.
A treasure ship (takarabune) carrying a goddess of all animals — Mayumi Oda's feminist revision of one of the most beloved subjects in Japanese popular religious art. The takarabune (宝船) of the Seven Lucky Gods, traditionally associated with New Year's Day and the dream of good fortune, is here commandeered for Oda's own mythological project: the ship becomes a vessel not of male prosperity gods but of a female divinity in sovereign relationship with the animal world. The edition number (4/50) places this within a limited run that balances accessibility with scarcity. Oda's goddess figures — voluptuous, powerful, joyful — embody a feminist spirituality that reclaims the divine feminine from patriarchal religious traditions.
